Contemplate Your Celebration!

Christmas is almost here! For many, there will be lots of celebration time with family and friends.

Some of us will experience the frantic scramble to pick up gifts yet to be purchased. There will be the sugar rush from cookies and goodies, and despite our best shot, we will indulge – convincing ourselves we’ll behave after the first of the year.

Some of us will be reunited with family and loved ones, taking advantage of every moment to “catch-up.”

I’m also aware that others are experiencing loss during the Christmas season (I wrote about this in my last Reflection, The Dark Side of Christmas).

Although the next week will provide “time off,” for me (and I hope you will have some time off as well), I pray that in all of our celebration we will also make time to contemplate.

In the midst of our celebration, let’s not forget to contemplate what God has done, is doing, and will continue to do for each of us because of Jesus!

Our Savior, born in Bethlehem years ago, continues to come to us today in our celebration and sorrows; when times are easy, or not.

If (like me) you’re prone to miss seeing Jesus in the hurriedness and frivolity of this Season, you may want to take “5 minutes” to reflect on the Angel’s proclamation:

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Lk. 2:11).

Wishing you a very blessed and Merry Christmas
